Open Source Learning

What is Open Source Learning? It comes from the notion of Open Source Software/Hardware and was motivated by listening to a radio 4 (UK speech radio) called Click on (3rd program). The program highlighted the concept of Open Source Hardware and its credentials to enable global users to re-use hardware technology in a collaborative format; essentially to focus on the main global issue of climate change and the need for a shift in society. This led me to the idea which supports this of Open Source Learning. The idea is that collaboration and democracy and equality are the drives for society to create Learners for the challenges ahead. Currently we are in a paradigm of learning global competition, clearly this will fail to generate the ideas to solve the problems that we will face as a Global Society. Educational institutions on a global scale will need to enable learners to have the skills to adapt to a new world and for these ideas to come from a Global Source of learners, for us all to become an Open Source Learner.
